Here's an easy way to find out if that vitamin, juice, or other supplement some company is claiming to be the end all be all best thing you could ever take, does what it says it does or if they're just blowing smoke up your butt.
Compose an email or write a letter to the company and write something like this:
Dear sirs:
I am extremely interested in your products. I have just one request. Please send me a complete bibliography of all of your research that has been accepted for publication in refereed or peer reviewed professional journals. This should be published research done by scientists employed by you or those on your advisory board concerning work on the actual products you are selling.
Sincerely,
your name
It helps to sound interested and positive even if you aren't so that they are more likely to take you seriously and respond. The problem you may find with most companies products is they won't have this sort of proof to back up their claims. The problem is, research like this costs a lot of money. Millions of dollars these days.
IN my personal experience, Shaklee is the only company I've had answer back with any sort of real research backing up their claims. I did hear back from Mona Vie about their research, but all they had for proof was a miniscule 12 person in-house (biased) study that was more or less worthless.
Now if a company doesn't have the research to back up their product claims, it doesn't mean they don't have a good product. It's just not something an educated consumer should waste their time on. You could be your own guinea pig and spend the time and money on products and blood work to see if they do what they say they do, but why would you want to do that? I for one am not going to waste my time or life doing that.
